Tuesday 1st April – walks **** Sunny

Had a relaxed start to the day, did exercises and ate breakfast in the sun. We sadly left Margeriaz at 11.30 and headed down the mountain to the Cascades du Pissieu which we had seen signed on a post on our way up the other day. It was a lovely easy half hour walk through pasture, past a goat farm where you could buy goats cheese and up a rocky path to the waterfall which came into the river from the right. We climbed up until we came to the end of the path where the water came out of a cave to start the cascade:) We stayed there taking photos and watching the water for a while then walked back along the river and joined the original path. We had our picnic in the sun by the river near the van watching Dippers diving for bugs in the river and black caps flying out of a bush and catching bugs flying over the river:) Drove up to Le Chatelard, a small village on the hillside and visited their tourist information and walked to the Belvedere (which was a little disappointing!). Went to the Carrefour and bought 6 (!!) magnum style almond ice creams as it is so hot! We ate one straight away and put the others in the freezer bit of the fridge but as we turn it off at night they will have to be eaten pretty quickly but 6 for 2 euros cant be beaten!! We returned to Somnez hoping to have a couple of hours skiing tomorrow as it is supposed to be open for another couple of weeks and will be our last chance before we have to start heading north and home. Our first glimpse of the pistes at Versant Bauges showed that they were definitely shut as you could see grass! Oh no!! Drove round to the main part of the area and that is all still open so it wont be such a big area but at least we stand a chance of a quick go – we will see what the weather is like in the morning. The usual price is 7 euros for 2 hours so as half of it is shut there may be a reduction! The piste basher was out tonight so looks hopeful. We parked at the top near the Le Courant d’Ere restaurant in virtually the same place as last time. We decided to bury the last two ice creams in the snow to see if we can keep them going for tomorrow!
